Loom looks quite a bit like Florian Amrhein's NewsPortal, and that's no coincidence. Loom was developed for use as the web interface to Gmane. NewsPortal was pressed into that position for a couple of years, and I liked its look.

No code from NewsPortal found its way into Loom, but I used its thread images for the thread display.

The main idea in Loom is to use non-standard, frightening and insecure features in web browsers to try to make it almost pleasant to read a newsgroup with a web browser. If Loom doesn't work for you, then use a news reader, like any sane person would. If Loom does work for you, use a news reader anyway.
